CIMMYT (Mexico and Kenya)
Mike Olsen – PI,Trait Pipeline and Upstream Research Coordinator at CIMMYT
Kate Dreher – Germplasm Data Coordinator, data management specialist
She works as a data coordinator at the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT). She studied plant molecular biology at the University of California, Davis, with a focus on auxin signaling pathways, and received her Ph.D. in 2007. After working for The Arabidopsis Information Resource (TAIR) and the Plant Metabolic Network at the Carnegie Institution for Science, Kate moved to support research data management at CIMMYT in 2013. She is motivated by its mission to improve livelihoods through maize and wheat science. She hopes to contribute to the GOBII project by providing information about CIMMYT’s genotypic, phenotypic, and genealogical data and she enjoys testing the great tools being developed by the GOBII team and its partners.
Susanne Dreisigacker – Wheat Molecular Breeding
Her intrerest and goal is to bring genetic and genomic tools via new approaches into crop improvement, understand the genetic basis of biotic (rust, septoria, tan spot, fusarium) and abiotic (drought, heat) stress responses. She is also working on the application of marker-assisted selection strategies in breeding (MAS, MARS and GS) to improve genetic gain, genetic diversity, its exploitation and introgression into crop improvement.
Juan Andres Burgueño Ferreira – Head of Biometrical and Statistical Unit, Genetic Resource Program
Sara Jane Hearne – Maize Molecular Geneticist/Pre-breeder, Genetic Resource Program molecular breeder
Claudio César Ayala Hernandez
José Luis Francisco Crossa Hiriart – Distinguished Scientist, Biometrical & Statistical Unit
Jens Riis-Jacobsen – Director of Int. Systems & Information Technology
Umesh Rosyara – Genomics Breeding Scientist, Global Wheat Program
Rosemary Shrestha – Germplasm data Coordinator
She is a germplasm data coordinator at International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT). She obtained her PhD (Molecular Plant Pathology) in 2006 from Kangwon National University, Chuncheon, South Korea. She joined CIMMYT in 2008 as post-doctorate fellow and her work was focused on the Crop Ontology project funded by Generation Challenge Program and coordinated developing ontologies in collaboration with other CG centers (Bioversity, CIP, ICRISAT and IRRI). She was also involved in evaluating some maize diseases in Mexico under SeeDs of Discovery project from 2012-2013.
Her major ongoing roles at CIMMYT are to test and evaluate various tools/databases required for managing germplasm data (wheat genotypic and phenotypic data). She works closely with wheat breeders and scientists and actively involved in promoting data standards, data quality, and ontologies required for data harmonization globally. She is also an active member of the Wheat Data Interoperability Working Group associated with Research Data Alliance.
Victor Jun Ulat – Applied Bioinformatics Specialist
He is responsible for overseeing GOBII’s technical deployment. He is also leading the group that provides bioinformatics and high performance computing support to scientists and researchers in the institute. Before joining CIMMYT he worked for the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) in various capacities from an Associate Scientist in the laboratory to a Senior Bioinformatics Specialist working with the 3,000 Rice Genomes team. He has a master’s degree in Genetics (minor in Biochemistry) at the University of Philippines in Los Banos. His interests includes comparative genomics, biological databases and high performance computing.
Xuecai Zhang – Molecular Integration Breeder (Maize)
